June isn’t the only month to celebrate pride! August is the perfect month to celebrate in Lafayette/West Lafayette, Ind.
OUTfest 2013 will be on Saturday, August 3, 4:00 p.m. to midnight at Riehle Plaza and the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Lafayette. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and anyone 12 and under is free. Or earn FREE admission by volunteering at OUTfest for a 2-hour shift!
OUTfest is a fresh, fun and family-friendly street festival celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex community (LGBTQI), and our families, friends, and allies. OUTfest, Lafayette’s annual pride festival hosted by Pride Lafayette, aims to increase public awareness of the LGBTQI community in Lafayette and beyond, bring attention to LGBTQI issues, provide resources, and celebrate diversity.
Each year OUTfest gets bigger and bigger—more vendors, more sponsors, more community involvement, and more attendees. In 2008 OUTfest started with 3000 visitors and last year more than 8000 people came out to be part of this incredible event. And this year, thanks to our generous sponsors The Word, Neon Cactus, and Awards Unlimited, we hope to host an even bigger event!
OUTfest 2013 marks its sixth year with:
Family area
Live bands
DJs
Food
Beer gardens
Dancing
Light-hearted drag show
Vendors with jewelry, clothes, books, crafts, and more
Informational booths
Extended hours for downtown businesses
And much more!
The entertainment lineup is OUTstanding! As in the past few years, OUTfest 2013 will highlight the diversity in our community with a focus on local and regional talent. Look for performances by local bands, Purdue University performers, dance groups, and street performers on two stages and throughout the festival.
Our West Stage, with Purdue Campus as a backdrop high up on the hill, will showcase musical stylings from jazz to folk to rock, while also featuring visual entertainment from modern dance to ballroom and even Zumba!
Perched over the steps at Riehle Plaza you will have the musical stylings of local DJs, and the high energy of local and regional bands with a selection of popular covers and outstanding originals. Let's not forget to add a touch of belly dancing to Burlesque and cap it off with the always popular Drag Extravaganza with The Queens of the Columbia Ballroom at 10:30 p.m.
Returning acts include Frank Muffin, Wulbrecht Jazz & Upshot, and the Minsky Kinks burlesque review. DJs include DJ King Wolf and the diverse talents of Purdue Beat Society.
Loads of vendors are lined up to showcase their wares and services. The 2013 list includes numerous clothing, craft, art, and food vendors as well as family-friendly organizations, churches, and LGBTI groups and resources. And we’re thrilled to have as a first-time vendor The Knickerbocker Saloon—Indiana’s oldest bar! There is something for everyone!
It’s not too late to get involved. Show your support by hosting a vendor booth for your business or volunteer to help with the event. OUTfest is looking for volunteers to assist with poster distribution, set-up, stage help, security, decorations, clean-up, and tear-down. Contact info@pridelafayette.org for details.
